Ryan Sydney Sweeney, Madame Web star, will reportedly play Julia Carpenter in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man Universe film.
Euphoriastar Sydney Sweney has been reportedly revealed as the character in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man Universe movie Madame Web.
Jeff Sneider from The Hot Mic podcast claims that Sweeney portrays “the second” Spider-Woman incarnation in Madame Web. Marvel Comics’ second-in-continuity Spider-Woman in-continuity was Julia Carpenter. Jessica Drew succeeded Julia. Julia’s participation in Sony’s Madame Web video is notable, considering she is also the second (and currently) Madame Web in comics, having succeeded Cassandra Webb.

Madame Web will be released in theaters next February. production has wrapped up this January. Dakota Johnson stars as the clairvoyant eponymous, first appearing in the 1980’s Amazing Spider-Man #210. Sweeney, a character that was not disclosed, joined the Madame Webcast last March. It has been unknown which Madame Web Johnson character Cassandra Webb would play, or Julia Carpenter. Sneider says that Sweeney could be playing Julia. This would indicate Johnson is playing Cassandra.
Who Is Marvel’s Julia Carpenter
Created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck, Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman made her first full appearance in 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes #7. Julia was initially dressed in a black-and-white suit. This suit served as the inspiration for Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s Symbiote suit (which the original Wall-crawler obtained in Secret Wars #18). Julia became Arachne within Ms. Marvel in 2006, before eventually taking over as Madame Web in 2010’s Amazing Spider-Man #637.

Sneider reports that Julia Carpenter will make a live-action debut next year when Madame hits theaters. But Carpenter will be making her big-screen debut in the highly anticipated animated film Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse which opens this June. Jessica Drew, Marvel’s original Spider-Woman (in-continuity), is one major player in the Spider-Verse second. The official poster confirms that Julia Carpenter will be the Spider-Woman in the film.
Madame Web Enters The Spider-Verse
Johnson and Sweeney star alongside Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connors, Isabela Merced, and Mike Epps in Sony’s Monsieur Web film. Zosia Mamet is also featured. Sweeney seems poised to be a major in the world of comic book adaptations by Sony. Sweeney, in addition to her role in Madame Web, is also attached to play the leading role in the studio’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of Jean-Claude Forest’s Barbarella. Paramount Pictures had previously released a Barbarellafilm starring Jane Fonda back in 1968.
Madame Web opens theaters on Feb. 16, 2024.
